How to Survive a Power Cut Without Losing Your Rating

Power cuts are increasing. When the lights go out, the clock starts ticking.

Legal rule: chilled food can stay above 8 °C for maximum four hours total. After that it must be thrown away unless you can prove it stayed below 8 °C (e.g. in a working generator fridge).

What 5-star businesses do the second the power fails:

1. Log the exact time the power went off in the app (offline mode works fine). 2. Move high-risk stock (dairy, meat, fish) to cool boxes with ice packs or to a friendly neighbour’s working fridge. 3. Check and log temperatures every 30–60 minutes. 4. When power returns, log the time and final temperatures.

Show that chain of events to an EHO and you keep every star. No log = automatic disposal of everything and a major non-compliance.
